Desi Valdez is a unique student at Artfit. She is a young female in the Defensive Tactics class which is usually filled with men. It has been awesome to have her in this class for the last 7 months. She has also been attending the MMA classes for the last three months.
Desi plans on going into the Law Enforcement field and was looking for classes that would prepare her for the job. She was looking for “basic defensive moves and different ways to approach situations.” She was also looking for knowledge of how to handle handguns, different ways to use them, and to defend herself. Desi tells us “In DT I have learned many different ways to defend myself in many circumstance, and the best ways to be effective while doing the right thing. I have learned that not all altercations need to be dealt with violence and that there is many ways to successfully gain control of someone without hurting or injuring them.” Desi looks forward to continued training. She would like to have better understanding on how to handle the guns that she will come across in the Law Enforcement field, and is continuing to practice so that the defensive moves become muscle memory. She says “so if I have to use them I can know what will be the best.”
We asked Desi to share her some of her experiences at Artfit. She said, “I have met so many people that are so amazing and I love listening to their stories about how they served for us or the things they have been through in the Dojo. I have learned a lot of different ways to protect myself and I have been able to show my sisters some of the simple defense moves. It is a great environment” She will be leaving Artfit at the end of the summer to attend college. We have enjoyed having her in class and wish her the best as she continues her education.
