I have learned leadership skills, teaching skills, and how to fight.

...I hope to become a black belt and take my skills in the Marines.

Tanner Hook
Tanner Hook has been a karate student of Walt Bushey’s for 10 years. He came in as a shy young boy who had a tenaciousness that never quit. He never backed away from a match or an opponent. Tanner’s athleticism blossomed in martial arts. Over the years, he has become a great karate student who is on his way to being a great karate instructor.

Tanner came to us wanting to be able to defend himself. He says, “I just wanted to learn how to fight and how to defend myself.”  Through years of training Tanner believes that he attained those goals and more, “I have learned leadership skills, teaching skills, and how to fight.”  He has climbed the belt ranks, earning all the belts except for black, but is well on his way toward that goal.  He plans for martial arts to continue being a part of his life to black belt and beyond. He intends to eventually join the marines. He told us, “I hope to become a black belt and take my skills in the Marines.”

Tanner has become a confident young man who excels in all aspects of his life.  Tanner has grown into a strong leader that all his peers respect. His leadership skills made him an Assistant Senior Patrol leader and a member of The Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts. He also excels in school, and is in the National Junior Honor Society.  He is learning to teach karate and assists Walt in the kid’s karate classes at ArtFit.

Tanner is a great illustration of a young man who sets a positive example for others. He is proactive in his community. Works hard and is disciplined.  He is a great role model for the younger children in his karate class and at school. We are proud that he is part of our ArtFit family.
